Teens: Getting Your License
- At the age of 15 and a half, you are eligible to take the Provisional Licensing Test.
- To advance, you must pass a written exam.
- Once passed, you will be granted a Provisional Driver Permit.
- To validate this permit, a signature from a Certified Driving School instructor is necessary, which you will receive during your first lesson with AboveAll.
- You can test for your Provisional Driver License six months and one day after obtaining your permit.
- Additionally, you are required to complete six hours of Behind-the-Wheel training with a Certified Driving School and 50 hours of practice with an adult over 25 years old, who has a valid California driver's license.
- This adult must confirm the completion of your 50 hours, including at least 10 hours of nighttime driving.
Adults
- To obtain your license, you must pass a written exam.
- The exam includes 36 questions, and you have three chances to pass.
- Once you pass, you will receive a Learner's Permit.
- You must be accompanied by an adult who is at least 18 years old and holds a valid California license during practice sessions.
- This adult must be capable of taking control of the vehicle if needed, as driving alone is prohibited.
- Although there is no mandatory timeframe for taking your driving test, remember that your permit will expire after one year.

The certificate must be presented to the DMV when you take the written Provisional Permit Exam.
